Adopt

Animals in need of adoption come from a variety of places. They may be an owner surrender due to an unfortunate circumstance, or a stray animal that no one has claimed (or worse, someone has ‘dumped’). They may be on ‘death row’ at a shelter that is overcrowded, or an abandoned mama and her babies found alone. Click the button below to view our animals in need or visit our facebook page (@waitinganimalsgettingsupport).

Wags Alumni

WAGS believes there is a perfect home for every animal waiting, one that is matched to their particular needs. While animals in need of adoption come from a variety of places, they also find their ways to a wide variety of homes.

Adoption Process

It is important to us that all of our animals find stable and loving homes. Our adoption process ensures that animals are placed in homes that fit their needs now and in the future.

1. Completion of application
Read and complete our adoption application below, answering all questions honestly and as thoroughly as possible.

2. Phone interview
Once we have reviewed your application and determine we would like to move forward, we will schedule a phone interview with you so we can get to know you a bit more and answer any questions you may have in regards to the adoption.

3. References including landlord approval
In addition to contacting your veterinary information (for any current or past pets), we will ask for two personal references and your landlord's contact information (if applicable).

4. Home visit
To ensure the safety and well being of all our animals, a home visit must take place before any adoption approval. During this home visit we will be reviewing indoor and outdoor space that will be available to the adoptee, discuss any special circumstances that may be helpful like sleeping and eating locations, as well as any other needs or concerns.

5. Adoption approval, Adoption Contract & Fee
Once you have been approved for adoption, the completed adoption contract is due along with the applicable adoption fee. Fees may range from $300 and up depending on the particular pet and the expenses incurred to date. Please know that WAGS does not profit from adoption fees, but instead strives to cover a portion of the vetting, transport and supply costs so that we may continue to save the next animal in need.

6. Arrange transporTation for your new family member
Once it is official, arrangements will be made with you to pick up your new furry family member,  either at the foster or from the transport location.

Foster

Fostering saves lives, not just the life of the animal being fostered, but also the life of the animal that is now able to enter a shelter in its place. Without fosters, our animals may be at risk of being euthanized or are left to wait for their forever homes in stressful shelters or other poor situations. This further exacerbates their anxiety or depression, and does nothing to prepare them for home with a family.

Foster families are often needed to remove a dog or cat from a shelter when they are not doing well in that environment, or if they need medical attention and care that would be best received in a loving home rather than a kennel.

Fostering allows us to further assess an animal’s needs as the foster can provide updates on likes, dislikes, behaviors and the resilient personalities so many of furfriends begin to show once they decompress from the stress they have endured. Foster’s also get first choice if they decide to become our favorite — ”foster fails” and turn into adopters instead!

Foster Agreement

Thank you for your interest in becoming a dedicated foster! This is a very important part of an animal’s adoption journey that allows them to recuperate from the shelter environment and showcase their adoptability in a comfortable and loving temporary home. Please be sure to read our Foster Agreement prior to filling out the foster application.

Volunteer

Volunteers allow us to raise the money we need to fund medical procedures, emergency visits, transportation and supplies for the animals. We make volunteering fun by attending Patriots games, creating raffles, holding fundraisers, and of course interacting with the amazing animals we strive to save!

WAGS hosts a series of events throughout the year including wine tastings, psychic medium readings, vendor fairs, pictures with the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus and  more! We are always looking for volunteers to assist in running these events that fund all of the things we are able to do for our fur friends. Without volunteers, there would be no WAGS!

We are currently looking for volunteers to join our Gillette team. This involves helping to run a concession stand at the stadium. We have a lot of fun and while no fur friends will be there, we can often catch parts of the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution games. We also work during concerts, from The Rolling Stones to Kenny Chesney, to Beyonce and Jay Z. We challenge any other Gillette concession stand to a dance off!

Every year, millions of adoptable animals end up homeless through no fault of their own. The latest statistics show that over 1836 dogs and 2357 cats are euthanized EACH DAY in the United States alone. Two things will change this: funding and families. It is our mission to keep rescues out of kill shelters and give them an opportunity to find their new families.

Every animal has urgent daily needs including food, shelter, medical care and training. Every dollar counts when it comes to saving lives. All donations and adoption fees go toward caring for rescues and their expenses, ensuring they get the best treatment possible. Sometimes we partner with rescues in other states with very high kill rates who are unable to save animals due to the overwhelming volume and limited resources. In those instances, they may have local fosters available and a contract with the local shelter to rescue their animals, but they need WAGS funding to make that happen. In true rescue, we are all on the same team with the same mission — to save innocent lives.

Please consider saving a life by making a charitable donation today. All donations are tax deductible.
